What is a resume?

A resume is a written document showing the work experience, education and skills of the job seeker.
Job seeker is a person who needs employment. Resumes are usually one to two pages long that contain short but detailed descriptions. Descriptions about job seeker like full name, contact information, profile summary, qualifications and professional skills. Every description should be well written in resume. 

Everything should be easy to read in resume. Job seeker needs to provide a great resume to an employer. Employer may be a person, it may be a organisation or a company who provide employment for the job seeker.

Resume is a necessary document to show how well a candidate is eligible for the job.  Freshers as well as experienced both need to present their resumes first to an employer.

Why you need a great resume?

As we all know that there is a lot of competition in the job market. For few vacancy, many applicant send their resumes. In this case job seeker needs to create a resume that really shows their qualifications to an employer.

A great resume is really important for the following main reasons.

What are the parts of a resume?

Following are the key parts of a resume:
  • Name and contact details
  • Headline and summary
  • Work experience
  • Education

Job seeker write their full name matching with all other documents. All the information (like name, address,etc.) provided should be exactly same in each document. Contact information should contain your current postal address, email address and telephone number. Postal address contain house number, street name, city, district, state, country and pin code or postal number.

Job seeker write headline and summary in their resume. Headline is basically a phrase that highlights your importance or value as a candidate for the position. Summary contains a short paragraph or list (with bullet points) of your strengths and experience.

If you have past experience than put it in your resume in reverse chronological order (most recent first). If you are a beginner than you should write your college projects experience and tell about your work you have done.

You have to provide your educational details in fourth part of your resume. Your educational details should be written in reverse chronological order with bullet points. Your resume look good and leave positive impression on the reader. So follow reverse chronological order.

How to write your resume?

Writing a resume probably seems very easy but there is a specific format for information in resume. To make a professional impression on the reader, job seeker need to follow standard format. Read the following points carefully:-
  • Write your name in larger size and make sure it should be in bold letters. So that this helps the reader to find the name very quickly. It is also common to put your name in center at the top of the page.
  • Write your contact information followed by your current official location. So, employer can contact you easily and can send you information without any difficulty.
  • Nowadays, headline is more popular to use instead of objective. It is a short paragraph showing strengths and value for the position.
  • Enlist your past work experience in reverse chronological order. List most recent experience first.
  • Similarly, list your educational information in reverse chronological order.List your recent education first.
Keep all the above things in mind and write a great resume for you. So that you could placed in your dream company or organisation.
